Finse er et flott utgangspunkt for fjellturer. Det er lett tilgjengelig med tog, og man kommer samtidig langt inn i fjellheimen. Vår ”søskentur” startet på samme måte med bil fra Kongsberg til Geilo for så og ta toget inn til Finse. Denne 3 dagersturens første mål var Hardangerjøkulen som er en flott, populær og kort dagstur fra Finse. Samtidig er det Hordaland sitt høyeste punkt, og slikt motiverer ofte litt ekstra. Været var litt skiftende med et tynt skydekke på toppen, men likevel en flott tur på en av Norges mest kjente topper.

Med storsekken på ryggen la vi kursen over sørover over Finsevatnet

Den siste bakken opp til Jøkulhytta ble forsert før vi kunne ta en lunsjpause i leveggen . Det blåste litt og skyene kom og gikk ganske ofte.

Det siste stykket opp til toppunktet går slakt oppover på breen. Det er ingen varde på toppen, men toppunktet var likevel ikke vanskelig å få øye på. Selv uten varde var det et markert toppunkt på breflata. Høyden ble sjekket ut med GPS og den viste 1863 moh. Den samme høyden som på kartet. I tillegg var det en stein på toppen, så det kan se ut som Hordalands sitt høyeste punkt ikke blir lavere enn dette i tida som kommer.

Den lange flate Middalsbreen bukter seg nedover fra toppen av Jøkulen.

Ned igjen gikk det radig på det faste underlaget. Likevel klarte jeg å tabbe meg ut i en ”telemark-sving” ved at kanten på skia slo ned i noe som igjen resulterte i et ”flott” fall . Det er ikke første gangen det skjer på fjellski…

Teltet ble satt opp like sør for Finsevatnet før kursen ble satt østover i retning Geilo dagen etter . Se relatert artikkel ”Finse til Ustaoset”.
