Storskarven er den høyeste toppen nord i Skarvan og Roltdalen nasjonalpark. Skarvan er et spennende høyfjellsområde omkranset av vidstrakte uberørte trøndermyrer og glissen barskog. Turen startet ved Sildra.

I mørket på fredagskvelden stabret jeg meg oppover fra parkeringen igjennom granskogen med kurs for Storskarven. Overnattingsstedet ble tilfeldigvis på en liten høyde litt nordøst for Grønlipynten. "Tilfeldigvis" i og med at det er ikke mye man ser i mørket med liten lykt, og terrengkonturene har en tendens til å spille en et lite puss.
Bålet ble fyrt opp og etter litt problemer med fuktig bjørkeved i starten ble senkvelden riktig hyggelig når noen tørre furukubber ble lagt på. Stjerneklart var det også, og tankene vandret fritt der jeg slappet av i soveposen.

Lørdags morgen ble kursen satt mot Storskarven. Desemberdagene er korte, og man har ikke så mange timene på seg før skumringen kommer sigende. Med storsekken på ryggen gikk det i jevnt tempo oppover mot Sunndalshøgda. Bokstavelig talt gikk det over stokk og stein. Det var ikke mye snø i nordhellingne . Heldigvis er det mye myrer i Trøndelag så skiene berger fint. Det blåste opp fra sørøst i løpet av dagen og snøføyka stod rett i mot . Den siste bakken opp til toppen tok jeg av meg skia

Utsikten fra toppen var strålende. Selv topper med ganske beskjeden høyde kan by på vid utsikt. Fra Storskarven ser man nordover mot Skjælerfjella, østover innover i Sverige, sørover mot Sylan, Tydalsfjella og i sørvest helt til Trollheimen.

På grunn av vinden ble ikke oppholdet på toppunktet lengre enn nødvendig.
Returen gikk via den bratte dalen vest for Storskarven. Medvinden og det skarpe føret gjorde at det gikk unna nedover langs Fagerbekken . Etterhvert ble det så lite snø og jeg tok av skia et stykke. Etter 5 timer på tur var jeg tilbake ved parkeringen
