Galdebergtinden er ikke den mest spektakulære toppen i Jotunheimen. Det er mange som bare går forbi denne toppen på vei mellom Eidsbugarden og Gjendebu. Toppen byr imidlertid på god utsikt mot de vestlige toppene i Jotunheimen, og vidt utsyn mot de mer alpine toppene i nordøst, slik som Slettmarkpiggen. Vi besteg toppen på andre dag av sommerens rundtur i Jotunheimen. Første etappe gikk mellom Torfinnsbu og Gjendebu.
Turen startet ved Fagerstrand og den gamle og tradisjonsrike båten M/B Bitihorn inn til Torfinnsbu. Klokken var rundt halv fire da vi la avgårde innover stien mot Eidsbugarden og Galdeberget. Stiens tilstand vitnet om at dette ikke er den mest trafikkerte ruta i Jotunheimen, men T-merkene viste veien.
Været var skiftende og etter at brua over Langedalsåne var passert fikk vi en kort men intens regnbyge innover oss. Det skulle vise seg at dette var de eneste regnedråpene vi skulle oppleve under hele den 6 dager lange turen.
Turen fra Torfinnsbu til Gjendesheim 21-26.juli 2008 er delt opp i en serie på fire. De tre andre artiklene er:
Oppover Langedalen steg pulsen, men bortsett fra stigningen var terrenget var lettgått og det tok ikke så lang tid før vi nådde Langedalstjernet. Overraskelsen var stor over at mer enn halve tjernet fortsatt var islagt. Vinterens store snømengder i de østlige områdene av Jotunheimen har tatt tid å smelte bort.

Vi bestemte oss for å slå leir ved Langedalstjernet
. Dette passet godt inn i planen om enda en overnatting før vi skulle befinne oss i området rundt Gjendebu. Morgendagens plan var å fortsette på stien mot vest, og gjennomføre en avstikker opp til Galdebergtinden.

Dag 2 Galdebergtinden
Dag nr. 2 begynte ganske grå innover mot Galdebergtjerna og skaret sør for Slettmarkpiggen

. Stigningen opp til skaret var bratt for å være en T-merket sti. Pusten og svetten steg et par-tre hakk. Fra skaret bar det videre langs en mer og mer snødekt fjellside på Galdebergets nordside. Uksedalstjernet var i likhet med Langedalstjernet også godt dekket av is.
Da vi nesten var ankommet Uksedalstjernet sin vestside satt vi oss ned for en lunsj. Etter at lunsjen var unnagjort tok vi med oss litt lett utstyr og satte kursen opp mot Galdebergtinden
. Vi fulgte noen gamle spor oppover i snøen i den stedvis ganske bratte nordvestflanken på Galdeberget.
Utsikt ned mot Eidsbugarden i vestenden av Bygdin. Hjelledalstind, Falketind og Stølsnostind i bakgrunnen. Store Austbotntind helt til høyre.
Været var forsatt ganske grått, men skydekket dekket kun toppen av de aller høyeste toppene i horisonten. Galdeberget er kanskje en av de mer beskjedne og trauste toppene i Jotunheimen, men utsikten er det ikke noe å utsette på. Her har man et ypperlig panorama mot "heimens" vestlige topper.
Utsikt nord-østover mot Slettmarkpiggen, Slettmarkhøe, Store Knutsholstind, Langedalstinden (for å nevne noen).
Fra toppen bar det nedover nesten den samme veien som opp. En isøks eller lignende hadde vært et nyttig hjelpemiddel på nedturen. Galdeberget sin vestside er ganske bratt når snøen fortsatt ligger tykt, og en utglidning på et litt feil tidspunkt eller under feil føreforhold kan få alvorlige konsekvenser.
Vi kom oss trygt ned til sekkene som stod parkert under en fjellduk der vi hadde sittet for lunsj. Stor-sekken kom raskt opp på ryggen før vi fortsatte nedover Oksdalen mot vest og stien mellom Eidsburgarden og Gjendebu. Klokka begynte å nærmer seg halv sju da vi kom ned til krysningspunktet mellom stien til Gjendebu og bekken fra Uksedalstjernet. Kloppen som vanligvis leder vandrere trygt og tørt over bekken var oversvømt. Vi gikk litt frem og tilbake, men fant ingen andre muligheter enn å vade
. Det ble et par turer over bekken før alt og alle stod på den riktige siden. Vading er ikke så utrolig artig når man befinner seg uti de kalde vannmassene, men det er desto artigere etterpå når man igjen får på seg varme og tørre sko.
Teltplass ble lagt et par steinkast fra stien, litt sør for Geithøe.

Dag 3 Hviledag
Den tredje dagen ble en kort tur ned Veslådalen og leirplass like under Gjendetunga, omkring 30 minutts gange fra Gjendebu. Hviledagen gjorde godt foran de 3 ganske strabasiøse turene over Bukkelægeret, topptur til Surtningssui og avslutningen over Besseggen.
