Det er nevnt mange ganger før her på ifriluft.net, men noen ganger ligger det strålende turer å venter nesten rett utenfor stuedøra. Det er ikke alltid nødvendig med en alvorlig seriøs tur for å få gode naturopplevelser. Noen ganger er det for eksempel kun nødvendig å gå 20 minutter før man får en stor håndlaftet hytte for seg selv, samt vidt utsyn over sentrale fjell i Sør-Norge. Nyttårsaften 2007 ble etter tradisjonen tro tilbrakt på fjellet. Denne gangen på DNT-hytta "Dusehesten" ved dalføret Smådøl mellom Tunhovd og Uvdal.

Fra parkeringen ved veien innover Smådøl tar det kun 15-20 minutt med rolig gange i lett motbakke opp til DNT-hytta Dusehesten. Hytta drives av Drammen og Oplands Turistforening, og er en ubetjent og lite besøkt hytte på den T-merkede stien mellom Norefjell og Hardangervidda. Hytta ligger flott til med god utsikt innover Smådøl mot sør.

Hytta har navnet sitt fra en stor stein som ligger plassert oppe på fjelltoppen med samme navn rett nordvest for hytta. Om steinen "Dusehesten" ligner en hest er ikke godt å si, men et litt spesielt og artig navn er det i alle fall, og spesielt på en turisthytte får en vel si.

Dusehesten er en relativt ny, men liten og trivelig håndlaftet DNT hytte . Den ligger flott plassert med god utsikt over Smådøl.

Etter at ovnen på hytta var fyrt opp la vi turen opp mot Dusehesten i skumringen. Steinen ble foreviget med kameraet mot solnedgangen i vest før vi la turen mot Dusetind i nordøst. Det svake og kalde desemberlyset var på hell, men utsikten fra toppen av Dusetind var det ingen ting å si på. Smådøl i sør, Hemsedalsfjella i nordøst og Hardangervidda med Hallingskarvet i vest. Himmelen skiftet gradvis fra oransje til rød-lilla til mer blå og mørkere fargetoner. Et helt spesielt lys som kun kan bevitnes i løpet av årets mørkeste måneder.

Dusehesten en ganske ny ubetjent hytte, innviet høsten 2001, som oppfyller Drammens og Oplands Turistforenings drøm om passe dagsetapper mellom hyttene på den over 60 år gamle merkede stien Norefjell - Hardangervidda.

Vestfra merket rute fra Vasstulan eller Torsetlia. Østfra merket rute fra Norefjell / Haglebu / Tunhovd . Med bil, ta av ved Rødberg mot Smådøldalen. Parkering der T-merket løype krysser bilveien. Se kartet. Derfra ca 20 min gange til hytta.
