Etter en alpin start fra de tidlige morgentimer nådde alle toppen, unntatt Kalle som hadde måttet returnere ned fra fjellet p.g.a. mageproblemer. Vi startet fra 5900 m kl 05:30 med friskt pågangsmot i stjerneklart vær.

Med nysnø og god vind føltes det nesten som en kald januardag i Norge. Gradestokken viste noen og tjue minus og det blåste omkring 15 m/s. Ettersom vi steg oppover fjellet ble det merkbart tynnere luft, og det ble mange pauser og tunge bein. Vi holdt sammen hele veien og alle nådde toppen på samme tidspunkt. Etter sju timers gange sto vi alle på toppen og kunne nyte synet av Andesfjellenes snøkledte topper. Det var et fantastisk syn, og en veldig god følelese å stå samlet på 6962 m. Bildet er ikke fra toppen av Aconcagua, men fra toppen av Bonete. Vi regner med at stemningen var minst like god på den høyeste toppen i Sør-Amerika.

Det ble en lang dag ettersom alle mann gikk de 3000 høydemetrene ned til Basecamp direkte fra toppen. Det var en fornøyd og sliten gjeng som la seg på 4300 m etter omtrent 15 timers gange. Nå sitter vi og spiller kort og Kalle har akkurat kommet til Penitentes. Det var godt å se han igjen . Han føler seg i god form, og er forhåpentligvis blitt bedre i magen sånn at han er klar for mye god mat i Santiago . Vi setter pris på at dere følger med oss og gleder oss til å se dere hjemme i Norge.

Vi synes forkningen har gått bra og gleder oss til å jobbe med resultatene.

Bakgrunn:

10 medisinerstudenter fra Det Medisinske Fakultet ved NTNU i Trondheim og 7 andre "ordinære" ekspedisjonsdeltakere dro i desember 2006 til Andesfjellene for å gjennomføre ulike forskningsprosjekter innen høydemedisin. Gruppen bestod av både ferske og mer erfarne forskere. De ville gjennomføre ulike eksperiment på sin vei opp mot fjellet Aconcagua. Det høyeste fjellet i verden utenfor Himalaya. Forskningsresultatene vil inngå i både hovedoppgaver og videre forskning og vil bli publisert i ulike internasjonale tidsskrift.

I et historisk perspektiv har dette vært en av de største ekspedisjonene gjennomført i norsk høydemedisinsk forskning!
