I dag har vi vært i ro i BaseCamp. De fleste er i fin form og her blir vi noen dager. Vi har hatt vår tredje forskningsdag.

Tredje forskningsdag startet bra. Rutinene satt, men etter to runder med blodprøver streiket aggregatet. Etter 3-4 timer intensiv mekking av Martin, måtte bare forskningen utsettes. Are tok turen til Nasjonalpark-administrasjonen for å låne strøm der, og etter noen timer var vi igang igjen .

Legene i administrasjonen var veldig fornøyd med å høre om forskningen som ble gjort i 2003 i Aconcagua, og de var veldig nysgjerrige på forskningen ved drev nå. De ville ha alt av informasjon og resultater.

Været i dag har vært helt fantastisk. Lett vind og over 30 grader i sola. Sitter nå i shorts og t-skjorte og skriver, mens jeg nyter utsikten over flere topper på 5000m

Nå skal vi til Park-administrasjonen for å ta en obligatorisk legesjekk for alle som ankommer BaseCamp og skal videre. Et av kravene til å få gå videre er en oksygenmetning i blodet på over 80%. Da jeg målte dette tidligere i dag, lå jeg på nøyaktig 80, men dette vil mest sannsynlig stige i løpet av de dagene vi skal være her.

Bakgrunn:

10 medisinerstudenter fra Det Medisinske Fakultet ved NTNU i Trondheim og 7 andre "ordinære" ekspedisjonsdeltakere dro i desember 2006 til Andesfjellene for å gjennomføre ulike forskningsprosjekter innen høydemedisin. Gruppen bestod av både ferske og mer erfarne forskere. De ville gjennomføre ulike eksperiment på sin vei opp mot fjellet Aconcagua. Det høyeste fjellet i verden utenfor Himalaya. Forskningsresultatene vil inngå i både hovedoppgaver og videre forskning og vil bli publisert i ulike internasjonale tidsskrift.

I et historisk perspektiv har dette vært en av de største ekspedisjonene gjennomført i norsk høydemedisinsk forskning!

Søndag 8. januar 2007 stod 16 av 17 på toppen!
