I dag har vi tatt mange tester og forsøk. Ingen er alvorlig syke, men alle har antydning til en mild form for høydesyke.

Formen er veldig god. Astrid, Joakim, Sigrid og Ola startet kl.8 med forskningen. Temperaturen var 4 grader, noe som gjorde arbeidet litt vanskelig i starten. Rundt kl.11 steg temperaturen opp til 30 grader . Bjørn ble dårlig i dag. Kvalm og svært slapp . Lå utafor teltet en stund, men kom seg etter hvert og med hjelp av noen paracet. Sannsynligvis en mild form for høydesyke .

Gaute ble kvitt forkjølelsen som han slet med på julaften. Bjørn og jeg forsket i dag. Vi testet alle på gruppa for høydesyke. Sjekket kvalme, hodepine, hevelser og andre symptomer på høydesyke, samt noen balansetester.

Ørkenlandskap

Ingen er alvorlig syke, men alle har antydning til en mild form for høydesyke ( hodepine, slapp osv.) Svært sterke vindkast her oppe. Og landskapet er som en ørken, noe som gjør at vi er svært utsatt med sandstormer. Dette er ubehagelig og hardt for øynene. Brillene mine har ikke beskyttet godt nok, så jeg har fått for mye sand inn på det høyre øyet, som har resultert i betennelse på øyet. Har fått salve og går på en antibiotika-kur. Har gått med bind for øyet hele dagen.

Bakgrunn:

10 medisinerstudenter fra Det Medisinske Fakultet ved NTNU i Trondheim og 7 andre "ordinære" ekspedisjonsdeltakere dro i desember 2006 til Andesfjellene for å gjennomføre ulike forskningsprosjekter innen høydemedisin. Gruppen bestod av både ferske og mer erfarne forskere. De ville gjennomføre ulike eksperiment på sin vei opp mot fjellet Aconcagua. Det høyeste fjellet i verden utenfor Himalaya. Forskningsresultatene vil inngå i både hovedoppgaver og videre forskning og vil bli publisert i ulike internasjonale tidsskrift.

I et historisk perspektiv har dette vært en av de største ekspedisjonene gjennomført i norsk høydemedisinsk forskning!

Søndag 8. januar 2007 stod 16 av 17 på toppen!
