Julaften ble feiret på 3300 moh med biff, ris, kantarellsaus, rødvin og en ørliten skvett tobby.

Vi pakket ned utstyret fra Camp Penitentes ( 2600 m). Sendte forskningsutstyret og det andre utstyret til Confluensia ( 3300 m) som var neste camp. Kjøpte 4 kg biff og 1 flaske rødvin som skulle være årets julemat.

Brukte 4 timer opp til Confluensia. Alle merket høyden. Pusten gikk fortere, og den minste anstrengelse tok krefter. Gikk derfor rolig oppover og drakk mye hele turen . Passer på å drikke 5 liter vann per dag for å holde væskebalansen .

Merket at det presset en del i hodet. Forferdelig mye sand her oppe og mye vind . Vinden er opp i 20 m\s. Et russisk telt ble tatt av vinden. Det er varmt her, og temperaturen ligger på rundt 20 grader på dagtid og minus om natten.

Julesanger og julegaver

Satte opp det store forskningsteltet og soveteltet vårt. Feiret julaften med biff, ris, kantarellsaus, rødvin og en ørliten skvett tobby fra Svorkmo-karene. Gaute er forkjølet og tilbrakte julaften i soveposen i teltet. Det var god stemning og vi feiret julaften med julegaver, kake og tradisjonelle julesanger. Det ble en minnerik aften!

Bakgrunn:

10 medisinerstudenter fra Det Medisinske Fakultet ved NTNU i Trondheim og 7 andre "ordinære" ekspedisjonsdeltakere dro i desember 2006 til Andesfjellene for å gjennomføre ulike forskningsprosjekter innen høydemedisin. Gruppen bestod av både ferske og mer erfarne forskere. De ville gjennomføre ulike eksperiment på sin vei opp mot fjellet Aconcagua. Det høyeste fjellet i verden utenfor Himalaya. Forskningsresultatene vil inngå i både hovedoppgaver og videre forskning og vil bli publisert i ulike internasjonale tidsskrift.

I et historisk perspektiv har dette vært en av de største ekspedisjonene gjennomført i norsk høydemedisinsk forskning!
