Årets siste offisielle sommerdag er passert og høsten er i anmarsj. Skardsfjella øst for Stugudal i Sør-Trøndelag ble turmål for denne første helgen i september. Skardsfjella er en rekke med fjelltopper rundt 1500 moh som ligger litt sørvest for Sylan. Høyden pluss det flate terrenget rundt toppene gjør at man får en vidstrakt utsikt fra toppen. Vi gikk en hesteskoformet rygg over de to høyeste av Skardsfjelltoppene.
Det var en god stund siden at disse sørøstlige områdene av Trøndelag var blitt besøkt
. For å være nøyaktig var det 342 dager siden jeg gikk Syltraversen. Bilturen fra Trondheim stoppet denne gangen ved Vektarstugu i Stugudal. Startpunktet for turen var ikke helt bestemt så veien inn til Møsjøen ble først utforsket. Resultatet ble at vi pent måtte snu ved hyttefeltets veibom
. Klokken var 2115 når vi la i vei oppover den slake lia langs Pilgrimsleden mot Vektarhaugan. Mørket skapte litt problemer med å følge merkingen langs stien. Stien ble plutselig sporløst borte. Ledelinjen ble derfor en telefonløype som gikk i riktig retning. Etter 45 min gange slo vi opp teltet ikke langt fra elva Vestre Rotåa og parkeringsplassen for hyttefeltet i kanten av Vektarhaugan.
Skardsfjella
Lørdag morgen var været strålende. Vi spiste frokost og drakk noen kopper kaffe før vi kom av gårde litt før klokken 1100. Vi gikk i en time før vi igjen slo opp teltet ved Vestre Rotåa. De to Skardsfjell-toppene skulle bestiges som en dagstur med denne teltplassen som base. Like ved teltplassen var det tre store steiner. Uheldigvis hadde disse steinene et stort ”buldre-potensiale” så frustrasjonen av å ikke ha klatresko, kalk og stålbørste i sekken bredte seg. Vi slo opp teltet og gjorde klar noen små dagstursekker før vi tok fatt på stigningen opp ryggen til dagens første topp. Skardsfjell merket 1543 moh på kartet.

Den tørre sommeren i Trøndelag har tært hardt på småbekkene. Vi fant heldigvis en liten sildrende bekk på vei opp mot toppryggen. Drikkeflaskene ble fylt opp. Topprygger er som regel ganske fri for bekker og vann så det er best å sikre seg før man har gått for langt. Oppover ryggen begynte utsikten å vide seg ut. Det ble observert til sammen 8 ryper fordelt på et kull på 5 og 2 stykk av det fortsatt uredde slaget. Ryggen bortover mot 1543 ble etter hvert mer steinete, og den var ikke så lettgått som jeg hadde forventet. Toppen med en solid toppvarde ble nådd i solskinn og litt vind. Utsikten mot Sylmassivet og Helagsfjellet i øst var fantastisk. Helagsfjellet er den høyeste toppen i området med sine 1797 moh. Toppen er med dette Sveriges 7
. høyeste topp og har Sveriges sørligste isbre ved foten i øst.
Ved toppvarden var det tid for lunsj. På grunn av vinden krabbet vi ned i vindsekken mens vi spiste noen skiver med luksuriøst pålegg. Både brunost, nøkkelost og pastrami var å finne i sekken.

Ryggen ned til skaret mellom topp 1543 og høyeste på 1546 var relativt lettgått. Terrenget forandret seg noe når vi var på vei oppover mot topp 1546 fra skaret. Underlaget ble mer lettgått og det var merkbart mindre stein på denne siden av dalen mellom de to toppene.
På toppen ble det en kort pause for å nyte utsikten. Ryggen tilbake i retning teltplassen var lettgått og nedstigningen til Rotåsjøen

Vel tilbake ved teltet ble det en rask dukkert før middagslagingen startet. Denne gangen var det en litt ”gourmet” preget versjon av den vanlige Toro-gryta som stod på menyen. Rondane gryte med Reinskav, sopp, brokkoli og ris. På kvelden kom det noen spredte regnbyger som gjorde matlagingen i teltåpningen litt frustrerende.
Søndag morgen våknet vi opp til lavt skydekke, regn og en del vind. Det var absolutt ikke dagen for de store turplanene, så vi tok oss god tid før vi satte kursen tilbake mot Stugudal.

Vandring og Toppturer
