Kjerringøy er kjent gjennom både historien og diverse filmer. Det mange nok ikke vet er at den riktignok ikke er en øy, men en halvøy. Grunnen til dette er nok at det er relativt slitsomt å ta seg hit til fots, slik som vi gjorde denne helga. Den eneste farbare ruta mellom Saltenfjorden og Kjerringøy er ca. 30 km i luftlinje, og starter nede ved fjorden midt mellom Bodø og Fauske, går over 3 fjellpass på 500-700 moh og ned i 2 dype daler ved Heggmovatnet og Mistfjorden. Hele ruta er omkranset av spisse tinder på opp mot 1100 moh, altså et fantastisk skue i godvær.

Turen startet litt dramatisk i Bodø sentrum lørdag morgen da bussen kjørte fra oss! Heldigvis hadde noen i turfølget bil i nærheten og etter litt sprinting og villmannskjøring tok vi igjen bussen etter noen kilometer og kom oss med. Ved Valnesfjord gikk vi av og begynte på stigningen opp mot det første fjellpasset på ca. 600 moh. Sola stekte og det ble etter hvert lett bekledning oppover bakkene. Ved første vann måtte det bare bades selv om vannet nok var noe kaldere enn det lufttemperaturen skulle tilsi. Etter noen timer kom vi til den bratte nedstigningen mot Heggmovatnet som ligger på 100 moh . Dette er også drikkevannskilde for Bodø og var derfor noe nedtappet. I elveløpet som var nesten uttørket ble det lunsj før vi fortsatte over Bogvasskampen og forbi Bogvatnet. En time før skumring fant vi oss en fin teltplass ved et lite vann like over Mistfjorden. Her ble det laget mat i alle former og konsistenser fra meksikansk gryte til kyllinggryte med tørkede grønnsaker og real turmat.

Enestående vær og utsikt

Neste dag våknet vi til nok en strålende dag og rett etter avmarsj fikk vi et enestående skue over Mistfjorden og fjellene på Kjerringøy bak. Nede ved fjorden ble en av turdeltakerne hentet med båt og fraktet tilbake til Bodø grunnet et dårlig kne. Det var ikke dumt, for neste del av turen skulle vise seg å være den tyngste – både for kondisen og knærne. Bedre ble det ikke av det utall feite beist av noen edderkopper som gjorde iherdige forsøk på å fange oss på tur oppover. Opp fra fjorden var det 700 høydemeter rett opp til passet mellom Kvanntoaksla og Trolltinden . Noen syntes ikke dette var nok og foreslo en tur opp på Kvanntoaksla og slik ble det. Ned fra passet var det på grensen til det forsvarlige bratt. Noen sekker og hunden Nadja (som var en blanding av ikke mindre enn 7 raser!) måtte løftes ned de bratteste delene, men vi kom oss alle velberget ned til Trolltindvatnet stive og støle i knær og lår . En skikkelig rast, bading og blåbærplukking under Trolltindens mektige vegg gjorde imidlertid underverker, og nå gjenstod bare et par kilometer ned til sivilisasjonen på Kjerringøy der en av deltakerne hadde plassert sin bil på forhånd.
