Det er ikke vanskelig å la seg imponere der man går innover Ringsbotn med den markante profilen til Store Ringstind midt i mot. Få topper i Norge har en slik imponerende og krass profil. Toppen ser nesten ubestigelig ut på avstand. Heldigvis for oss har toppen en langt snillere side. På østsiden er det en bakke som egner seg utmerket for skiturer og en dertil god nedkjøring. Denne dagen var forholdene tett opp mot optimale; sol og pudder.
Da vi klokken 11 tok de første stavtakene innover i Ringsbotn med nordveggen på Store Ringstind midt i mot gikk tankene tilbake til fjorårets Highcamp på Turtagrø (Highcamp Turtagrø arrangeres hvert år av FriFlyt). Da var været stort sett elendig hele helgen, og en tur til Ringstind ville blitt en skikkelig tur i tåka. Denne dagen derimot skulle bli av det uforglemmelige slaget; Strålende vær, strålende skiføre og en strålende topp.
Innmarsjen inn Ringsbotn er på rundt 3,5 km og kan med tungt skiutstyr kanskje høres langdrygt ut for noen. Det fine med innmarsjen inn Ringsbotn er de særdeles innspirerende kulissene på alle kanter. Midt i mot fortoner Store Ringstind seg nesten ubestigelig. Den kvasse nordvendte profilen troner innerst i dalen mellom Dyrhaugstindane og Lauvnostinden.
Været var som nevnt helt perfekt. Strålende solskinn og praktisk talt vindstille. Vi kastet derfor fort av både bukse og t-skjorte, her var det bare å fange alle de solstrålene man kunne.

Dette var min første tur i Hurrungane
. Et av Norges mest alpine fjellområder. Høye og kvasse tinder på alle kanter. Et imponerende og spennede område for en skikjører og tinderangler.
Innerst i Ringsbotn startet vi på oppstigningen til brekanten under Midtre Ringstind. Dette innebar en lang travers i vesthellingen av Dyrhaugsryggen. Skarejernene kom nok en gang til nytte på den harde snøen. Vell oppe på den snødekte breen rundet vi i god avstand til det oppsprukne brefallet på Ringsbreen som heller ut mot Ringsbotn.
Store Ringstind har en spesiell form i form av en steil nordside, men med en gang man runder rundt fra øst åpenbarer det seg en lang bre/snøbakke til topps.
Herfra så vi for første gang den lange bredekte bakken opp til toppen av Store Ringstind. En lang og innbydende nedkjøring
. Samtidig fikk vi utsyn mot Stølsmaradalstinden samtidig som Storen var i ferd med å reise seg opp bak Søre Dyrhaugstind. Hvilke omgivelser!
Vi dvelte ikke alt for lenge og tok fatt på den siste lange bakken til topps ganske kjapt. Det hadde kjørt en god del skikjørere før oss, men det var fremdeles gode muligheter til å finne uberørte flater med hvitt pudder.

. Store Skagastølstind (Storen) er et flott syn fra denne vinkelen.
I det siste partiet opp til toppen brattner det markant til. Ved harde og dårlige snøforhold kan sikkert en isøks og kanskje også stegjern være til god hjelp her. Vi hadde ikke det problemet, men vi måtte feste skiene på sekken for å ta de siste høydemeterne til fots opp til toppen.
Fra toppen åpenbarte utsikten seg mot Ringstinds naboer i vest; Store Austbotntind og Soleibotntindane. Toppunktet på Store Austbotntind stakk seg dessverre bort oppe i tåka, men man fikk likevel inntrykk av denne toppens imponerende profil.
Etter litt fotografering, mat og drikke sammen med mange andre "Highcamp'ere" på toppen denne dagen gjorde vi klart for nedkjøringen. Det er vanskelig å beskrive nedkjøringen, men det var i hvertfall ingen som var misfornøyde der vi tok en pause i bunnen av den lange "topp-bakken". Lett og tørr nysnø oppå et fast og slett underlag sier vel sitt om de meget gode forholdene for skikjøring denne mai-fredagen.

Ned fra brekanten under Ringstind fulgte vi en slags renne ned mot Ringsbotn. Et relativt bratt parti som ble litt redusert på grunn av hard snø og is.
Ringsbotn, eller dalen mellom Lauvnostinden og Dyrhaugstindane heller heldigvis nedover nesten hele veien til fylkesveien mellom Turtagrø og Årdal. Vi hadde parkert bilen der

. Det er derfor en grei sak å gli de 3,5 km ut igjen på enten randoneè eller telemarkski. Hvis man hjelper til med litt staking i den siste delen.
Til slutt er del vel bare å avslutte med de innledende ordene: Det var en dag i strålende vær, strålende skiføre, til en strålende og enestående skitopp i Hurrungane.
