Med to par ski i bagasjen skulle Beiarn utforskes med DNT-hytta Beiarstua som base. Den ligger lett tilgjengelig midt i Beiardalen som er et eldorado for skikjøring som var aktiviteten denne helga, men mulighetene for jakt, fiske og annet friluftsliv er også meget gode. Å komme til Beiarn føles som å komme til en bortgjemt verden, da eneste veg hit utenom med båt går over Rv 813 Beiarfjellet, forresten også et godt utgangspunkt for fjellturer.

Dalen omkranses av et utall topper på opp mot 1600 meter, og man skal holde på lenge før man har prøvd alle... På vestsiden av dalen finnes bratte og spisse topper med små botnbreer mellom, mens på østsiden er toppene mer avrundet der det etterhvert glir over i viddene på Saltfjellet . Lengst inne i dalen møter en mektige Svartisen.

Lørdag var det fjellskiene som skulle prøves innover Tverrådalen, en furukledd dal som bryter seg inn i fjellverdenen mot Saltfjellet

. Det finnes flere åpne koier og gammer i dalen. Her ser jeg for meg fine furubål og fjellrypejakt på toppene – hit kommer jeg garantert tilbake! Etterhvert utviklet turen seg til et kappløp for å komme opp på en topp for å se sola. Vi nådde navnløse 1024, men noen gjenstridge skyer hindret solgløtt . Søndag skulle telemarkskiene prøves, og turen gikk først med bil ei lita mil oppover dalen til Heggmo. I dyp puddersnø og gjennom tett bjørkeskog gikk det rett opp lia mot Stormyrtind (1546 moh) . Det kjentes på pusten og lårmuskelene at dette var første skikkelige skitur i år... Selv med -17 grader var kun brynje under skalljakka mer enn nok... Dessverre skyet det over, og da vi møtte tåka på ca. 1000 moh ble fellene revet av og skituppene vendt nedover igjen på 30 cm pudder med hardt underlag. Perfekt telemarkføre!

Konklusjonene etter denne helga ble at området absolutt er å anbefale for toppturer og telemarkkjøring, og jeg ser et stort potensiale for jakt, fiske og annet villmarksliv. Hit drar jeg gjerne igjen!
